Where is your grow at?
Pick the stage you're in for what to look for and what comes next.
- 1Inoculation and colonizationGetting spores or culture into sterile grain or PF Tek jars, then waiting out a clean, even colonization.
- 2Spawn to bulkMixing colonized grain into pasteurized bulk substrate, then letting the tub colonize sealed and undisturbed.
- 3PinningSwitching to fruiting conditions so the surface forms knots and pins: fresh air, light, and a surface that stays dewy.
- 4FruitingCarrying pins through to mature mushrooms: more fresh air, steady humidity, dry caps, and watching for problems.
- 5Harvest timingPicking each fruit as its veil stretches and tears, before the cap flattens and drops spores.
- 6Next flushCleaning up, checking for contamination, putting water back with a dunk or misting, and waiting for the next wave.

Patterns that repeat
1.Surface moisture beats the RH number
Stalled grows kept showing a dry surface while the hygrometer read fine. Every fix was a wetter surface, sometimes with the fan switched off.
2.Overlay and blobs are mostly genetic
Fix the culture, not the climate: agar isolation, clones, leaner spawn, and a thin non-nutritive casing.
3.Cooler is often better
Jack Frost aborted during 87 °F spikes, and ochraceocentrata fruits happily at 63 to 65 °F. Expect first pins later in a cool room.
