What growers agree on

  • Aggressive and resistant to contamination.
  • Cold-tolerant: colonizes and fruits at 62 to 65 °F, just more slowly. Heat mats are not needed.
  • Air is the lever: stagnant, saturated air stalled one grower for 3 weeks, and pins came 3 days after uncovering.
  • Leaner spawn ratios (1:4 to 1:6); 1:2 to 1:3 gave deformities and overlay.
  • Several flushes are normal; scrub the surface lightly and soak 24 hours between them.

Where they disagree

FAE
It is possible to overdo fresh air in a hot room.
Overlay
Genetic versus environmental.
Casing
Optional, but most growers use a thin pseudo-casing.
